Smart Technology for Home Security

About This Project

With the growth of online shopping, many homeowners have experienced proliferating package theft, porch piracy or home burglary. The package theft is particularly menacing during the holiday season, when UPS estimates delivering 750 million packages – many of them gifts that families await but may never receive. Ring, a smart home technology company, was interested in establishing the rate of package theft and to utilize the research in promoting its home safety technology and garnering mass media attention.

Ring, a smart home technology company, retained Fluent to conduct research to explore how pervasive the package theft and home burglary problems are for US homeowners.

Our research established that one in five Americans had been a victim of package theft in the previous year alone. While package theft spikes during winter holidays — a shocking 35{31904f6beb53c77e6224eb111c2188ae0ff457f13397d6b1e88e1d549cf282a9} had had a package stolen during that time — it remains constant throughout the year. The research also established that smart home technology not only serves as a deterrent but also captures footage of thieves that can be reported to the police and used to raise awareness of theft crime in the neighborhood. The results of our research were widely publicized in national media.
